Hello kiddos
I think I'm about due for an update! I've been uber-busy and have barely been able to even get on dA in the last week. Let's go down the list:
Auction:
Well, the first auction went amazingly! We raised $500!!!! Thanks again to everyone who bid and won and donated, etc. We also got some pretty incredible money donations from people that just blew us away. So that was pretty cool. However, the second auction didnt do too well. Only $14. But, it was a bad month to try, you know? Things are slow, and people might have thought it was the same stuff etc. So, after talking about it, we decided to hold off until the slow-ass summer is over and start again around September. That way we can really push all the Fall and Halloween stuff. This way, we will have enough auction items until December when it's really the best time for an auction as people will want unique gifts! Good idea, you think?
Adoption:
They said it would be slow, but holy crap. Last week we got our LiveScans done. I've never seen $200 go so fast in my life! Seriously, the tech took our credit card, pressed our fingers to a screen and was like "thanks, peace." Crazy right? But we needed it done for the state and for the FBI in order to even proceed any further into the adoption. After the prints are cleared (should be by Monday) we can schedule another appointment with our Social Worker. After that, we just wait for our letters of recommendation to arrive at our agency from our friends, then another appointment. Once our Home Study is done, we start the epic paper chase. This is something we've already begun to try and get a handle on. Three certified copies of every possible document (birth certs, marriage cert, etc) will not come cheap, but they will come easy thanks to most counties being automated on the internet! Oh and the one site I told you about last time, did end up being lame, lol. So you're updated!
Other stuff:
Yesterday was (thankfully) the first time we got any recession-related bad news. Living in Silicon Valley, we've been pretty lucky throughout, you know? However, yesterday my husband called to say that 20% of his company got laid-off and he now has two furlough days a month. I'd never even heard of programmer's getting furlough days! It's sad, because the government has granted them funding (its smartgrid tech stuff) but it wont kick in until August, so they had to cut where they had to cut. So we will lose some money, but at least he has a side project he's been working on. More on that later (I designed the logo!)
Also,
is here visiting! Poor girl flew into the middle of a heat wave! "Hi, welcome to Mordor- I mean the Bay Area!" We took my youngling to the beach on Wednesday and I got some yarn at a local shop out in Half Moon Bay. I've finally learned amigurumi thanks to the amazingly patient
and
! Yesterday we went down to Japantown in San Francisco with
which was awesome if you discount the ride back when had to stop and get gas in freaking Nowhere and my kid vomited all over the backseat. But other than that, like I said it was awesome. And of course, (drumroll please)
HALF-BLOOD PRINCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We saw it last night and it was awesomesauce! Of course they change things around because they cant make a 7-hour movie, but still. I thought Harry and Hermione were so very perfect. I have such a soft spot for the love they have for eachother, so I was in love with their scenes together. I didnt cry as much as I thought I would, but I probably will when its on DVD and Im in my own home, you know?
Also, Coraline comes out on DVD on Tuesday which will just make my (and my son's) week!!!! (Also, Watchmen!)
So, that's about it, some ups and downs, such as life, right?
I will be posting some amigurumi soon, Im almost done with my first "dA-worthy" piece!
Hope all of you are having a fun and safe summer.
